Richard grew up as an only child in a happy and supportive household. Although undiagnosed dyslexia made school a challenge, he was extremely practical and was encouraged to observe the world around him closely – skills that would prove invaluable throughout his career.

By the age of 21, Richard had launched his own business and went on to become a highly successful entrepreneur, earning trust and recognition across the globe. At 71, after five decades at the helm, he retired but continues to lend his expertise and knowledge as a business consultant.

Richard’s first wife passed away from renal failure in 2013. He has two daughters and five grandchildren, and currently lives in Surrey with his second wife and their dog.

Watching our father bring The Untold Story to life has been incredible. It’s reminded him – and all of us – just how extraordinary his life has been. From a happy childhood and mischievous teenage years to becoming a successful businessman, working with the Security Service and raising two daughters with our wonderful mum (whose passing at just 58 left such a hole in our lives), his story is full of courage, love and strength. And later, finding happiness again and continuing to live life with such positivity, which is truly inspiring.

Over the past five years, Dad has faced and fought prostate cancer with the same determination and quiet strength that have defined his whole life. Even through treatment and recovery, he poured his heart into finishing this book. That perseverance makes The Untold Story even more special; it’s not just a reflection on his past, but a celebration of his courage in the present.

This book has given our father the chance to relive moments he hadn’t thought about in years. It’s brought laughter, a few tears and a deep sense of pride in everything he’s achieved. As his daughters, we now have a new understanding of the man we’ve always looked up to; not just as a father, but as someone who’s lived an incredible, full and fearless life.

We also want to thank Olivia, whose dedication, care and meticulous research helped bring these memories to life with such honesty and accuracy. Her passion for this project has meant so much to Dad and to all of us.

The Untold Story isn’t just a book – it’s a legacy. It’s a record of a life well-lived, a reminder of where we come from, and a gift for generations to come.
